Question on Chemical Equilibrium

Kp for an equilibrium at some temperature is “x” atm.

(1) Kp = K× (RT)-1

(2) Kp = K× (RT)

(3) Kp = Kc

Out of the three options given above which option shows the correct relation between Kand Kc at the same temperature?

Answer:

The relation between Kpand Kc is Kp = Kc × (RT)n where n is the change in number of gas moles in the equilibrium.

Kp for the equilibrium given is “x” atm and the units show that the value of n = 1. So the relation between Kp and Kc is (2) i.e. Kp = K × (RT)
